Ahem....here we go!

My first post!

As mentioned above, the purpose of this blog is purely self-indulgent, I admit (aren’t most blogs?). I just wanted a place where I can blog my views on nutrition & fitness, log my hikes, track my progress, and maybe even motivate or inspire others!

A few years ago, Rob and I started an informal hiking group and would plan hikes once or twice a month and invite our friends along. It was a lot of fun, but the varying levels of fitness, interests, and time constraints for everyone, made it difficult to gather people in one place at one time. So although the official club has sort of disbanded, I (living mere minutes from some of the most beautiful hiking trails in Northern California) have continued hiking – with my dog, with Rob, with Jacob, or with friends and family who share my love of the outdoors.

Currently, I have some more specific goals and I’m using the hikes to push myself to new levels of fitness. I quit smoking three and a half years ago (for good this time!) and of course, gained “a few” pounds. I’ve always eaten pretty healthfully, albeit maybe a bit too much, so there isn’t a whole lot of changes I can make to my diet (I could try eating slightly less, I suppose), but now, with a combination of nutrition and fitness, I plan on being a very “fitwife” indeed! Which brings me to another reason for “goal-setting”; our wedding is 4 months away and I have a dress hanging in my closet that I need to get into! Maybe I should buy a 2nd dress that actually fits me now? You think? Nah, I can do this – piece of cake!
