Week One (ROFCMEO)

(Rolling on the floor crying my eyes out)

Not really. But sort of.

I ditched the 7 Day Carb Cycle Solution because....because....I don't know why. I suppose I could read through all my posts over the last two years, psycho-analyze myself, meditate on it, and figure it out. But I don't feel like "making a federal case of it", as my mom would say (I love that saying).

Instead, I'm enjoying my Lose It! app. I eat when I'm hungry, and I eat what I want (of course it's primarily "clean" and whole grains, lean proteins, etc....I know how to eat healthfully), and I still enjoy some wine and cocktails and potato chips. I just keep track and try to eat mostly the good stuff, I try not to go over my daily allotted calories, and I try to get some exercise in every day (I found out that being at the ranch, grooming my horse, cleaning her stall, and riding, burns about 400 calories!).

I also realized that the numbers on the scale, because of my failing eye sight, look better. The 6 really looked like a 5 this morning. I thought I lost 10 pounds this week! I did not. But for a second, I felt GREAT!

Between my failing eye sight, my big, hip slimming cowboy hat, and the cocktails....I actually look pretty darn good right now...just as I am. I'm going to try to keep that mindset, but continue to live and eat in balance. Which reminds me...I need to start doing yoga again regularly...and get a tan. A tan is always good for about 5 pounds! So between my eye sight, my big cowboy hat, cocktails, a tan, and yoga (for a sense of inner well-being), I think I'll be good!

I think I'll go have some snack shack nachos now to celebrate!!

Starting Weight: 168.5

Week 1:            165 (or 155 depending on how I decide to read it)

The Pool Is Open!!

Not yet, but it's going to be 85 degrees on Sunday, our pool is currently draining, will be cleaned and re-filled.

I have 4 days to lose 20 pounds and get a killer beach body!

I weighed in this morning - mid-week, I know - and realized I'm pretty much in the same place I always am. Always. WOW.

Well, I'm hoping my new Lose It! app will continue to "inspire" me to be healthy.

I don't understand why hauling a bunch of this around.....

hasn't given me a beach body yet.

I DO have quite the "ranch hand" body though....There's that.

Week Six & Does This Hat Make My Butt Look Big?

So, the carb-cycle thing isn't really working anymore. Possibly because I didn't slingshot and I didn't follow the rules exactly. But I do feel leaner, even if the scale is being stubborn.

But never fear! I learned a really important lesson this week. When all else fails, buy a big cowboy hat! Here I am "playing cowgirl" in my new hat and no, I don't have chew in my mouth.

Looking at the picture, I realized that the width of the hat does wonders for the width of my hips. So I'm just gonna stop this dieting nonsense and wear the hat all the time instead. To work, to the grocery store, out walking, why limit myself?

On a more or less serious note, I did download the Lose It! app for my NEW IPHONE 4S! I love my phone, and I love the app. It's just fun to keep track of my food and exercise. I don't think of it as an obsession, I think of it as a fun way to keep myself accountable and in good health!

My next blog post will be next week. I have tomorrow and Monday off and will be attending the Buck Brannaman clinic in Hollister Fri, Sun, and Mon. And riding in a Ray Berta clinic on Saturday in Carmel Valley. I'm taking this horse thing real serious (even talking like a cowboy). We're supposed to be getting a heat wave this weekend - highs in the 80's! I'll get to wear my new hat!!

Here is another picture of me n' my hat but with my horse this time, at least the part of her big head I could get in the picture (maybe she needs a hat). I'm pretty excited about my hat.

And here is my hat on my dog. Just because. I call this one: "There's a new sheriff in town!" And I think we might photo shop little cowboy boots on her, a vest and a badge....The hat even makes our fat dog look thinner!

Week 5 And I Messed Up!!

Sheeeooot. I knew it wouldn't be long before I either A) Misunderstood the directions for the carb cycle diet, B) Blatantly disregarded the directions for the carb cycle diet, or C) Both A and B.

Guess which one? If you know me...ding ding ding...you are correct! "C" is the right answer!

Week 4 was supposed to be my "Slingshot" week where I eat high carb ALL week. This is to sort of "stoke" the metabolism and trick the body into thinking that it's got all the calories in the world coming, so no need to "save and store". But I was on a roll and didn't feel like "slingshotting" (seriously, the terminology Chris Powell chose for this program is ridiculous. Rob and I spent a whole evening coming up with an alternative word or phrase for "Shaper Excercises". We settled on "Interval Training".)

Anyway - I didn't "Slingshot" last week and this week I started to make up my own rules again (i.e. - red wine is a healthy carb, cleaning stalls is 'just like' doing cardio intervals, etc.). But I had to bend the rules because I had a baby shower and two happy hours with girlfriends this week (and there is nothing, no diet, NOTHING, more important than spending time with your girlfriends. Especially when wine is involved).

So this is week 5. No change on the scale. But I cheated enough this week that I'm going to call it my "Slingshot" week and start the next cycle on Sunday! (I know, I know. Again with the "making up my own rules" thing!)

I have other exciting news! I bought a super cute cowgirl shirt this week at a local western store (that's exciting, I know, but it's not "the" exciting news) and I started chatting with the girl who was folding the Wranglers. Here is how our conversation went, or pretty close to it: (SL = Sales Lady, btw.)

Me: Isn't this shirt so cute?
SL: Yeah. Those shirts are pretty cute.
Me: It is, isn't it??? (With more enthusiasm. She was kind of "hard to engage".)
SL: Totally cute! (I think I startled her) You could wear it to a concert! (That's more like it)
Me: (furrowed brow, I don't really go to country music concerts) But I could ride in it too, right?
SL: Oh, yeah. Definitely.
Me: So are you suppose-ta' tuck in these shirts? 'Cause I'm not gonna do that. But I keep seeing people with their shirts tucked in. I don't wanna stand out... (I decided to type that sentence how I actually spoke it. Yikes! I really use terrible grammar!)
SL: Oh, I don't like tucking in the shirts either unless I have to wear a belt. Believe it or not, you will stand out in a GOOD way. You'll look a lot cooler than some of the ridiculous....(she seemed a little bitter here, but I let her go on, it was very educational!) blah blah blah Wednesday night ladies team dummy roping at Bassos...blah blah blah...funny wardrobe malfunction story ...blah blah blah...
Me: Wow! They sound like total "buckle bunnies", right? That's HILLARIOUS! (obviously I left out a good chunk of the conversation and I can't remember where I heard the term "buckle bunny" but I've been dying to try it in a sentence, I hope I got it right. She nodded vigorously, so I think I did). But tell me more about this ladies team dummy roping.....!

And SO, I went back to the ranch and asked the only other two girls there if they wanted to start a Ladies Team Roping....team! We're going to take group lessons and hopefully be able to compete this summer...or next. Or never (two of us don't exactly have horses we could rope off of - small detail). I hope they know I'm not joking. Cowgirl up, ladies! And let's get some cute matching team shirts...not TOO cute though. We don't wanna look like buckle bunnies!

By the way, this is NOT me, NOT my horse. It looks really dangerous and I'm NOT ever going to do that!(ha ha ha) Although I may have to reconsider tucking in the shirt....

Week 4

Hmmmm...not much to report this week. A pretty uneventful week. I'm only down a half pound, but I confess that I didn't exercise like I should have. And I sure eat a lot! This doesn't feel like a diet at all, so even losing a half pound in a week is pretty great. Slow and steady wins the race, I guess?

One thing that I've noticed is that I don't have cravings for carbs at all. No chip or cheese puff cravings (my downfall). I feel really good! I'm going to keep going....
